How To Make An Easter Bunny Cake Without a Special Pan

After seeing this sketch, you'll be amazed that anybody ever pays me to do artwork. But, keep in mind I just sketched this quickly to share with a friend how I make an Easter Bunny Cake without having to have a special pan for it. It's actually very simple. Click on the picture to see it larger. You bake your cake in just the two regular 8" or 9" pans.

I like to take a piece of large cardboard and cover it with aluminum foil to build the bunny rabbit on. Because it's going to be large. So go ahead and get that ready first. Probably a piece of cardboard about 14"x16" or 16"x20" if you want a lot of space left around the cake would look nice.

Bake your cake (whatever type you like) according to package directions if you use a mix. If you're making the cake from scratch, please leave because you are making me feel like a terrible mother. Then come back after allowing the cake to cool and we'll start decorating.

Frost with white frosting and cover with coconut flakes so it will look like a fluffy bunny. If you want to get really artsy/craftsy, you can take a small amount of coconut flakes and tint them pink with a very small amount of food coloring and sprinkle that bit in the center of each ear or on the wee bunny wabbit cheeks.

The frosting will look rough, because you will likely brush off some crumbs as you go. But use white frosting and keep in mind that the coconut flakes are going to hide all those little imperfections. You won't need to put the coconut flakes on the bow-tie area.Get at least 2 cans of white frosting so you have enough to be able to add some food coloring for the bow-tie. Or, you could frost the bow tie in chocolate and decorate with M& Ms to kind of make the bow tie look like a polka dot bow tie. Just have fun with it.

You can surround the cake with some jelly beans or other candy if you like.
